Dairy Farmers of Canada presents
Rated PG Rollergirls
from Prince George, British Columbia
in the running for a Champions Fund grant!
Give a word of encouragement
How would a $5,000 Champions Fund grant help you or your organization achieve your goals in sport?
The Rated PG Rollergirls would use the funds for travel to tournaments, new jersies to distinguish our A and B level teams, and new loaner equipment for skaters under financial stress. We plan on sending our A team to tournaments as far as Arizona, California, and Wisconsin.
What financial challenges affect your ability to take part in sport or your organization?
Roller derby practice facilities are limited due to the nautre of the sport which often translates to more expensice facility rental costs. This in addition to equipment and travel costs, translates into high monthly league fees which can make the sport inaccessible to some skaters.
What boundaries would you like to overcome or see overcome for women in sport?
We would like to see more sports like roller derby which is a female-dominated sport that promotes inclusiveness when it comes to body type, gender, and sexual orientation. Female-dominated sports provide role models to young women which encourages self-esteem and lasting friendships.
Sports are important to me because…
We believe that sports are good not only for your physical health but also for mental well-being. Sports, specifically roller derby, promotes comradery, perseverance, confidence, and a sense of belonging.
